Wager Types

SIDES: A side wager is a wager where you play a certain side of a game against the spread (line). A side wager in basketball & football is always -110. What this means is that you lay $110.00 to win a $100.00 with your team plus or minus the spread.

Example: San Antonio Spurs -4 vs. LA Lakers
The odds makers are saying the Spurs are a 4-point favorite to beat the Lakers. You would either take the Spurs and lay the 4 points or take the Lakers plus the 4 points.
For Baseball & Hockey the line is handicapped as a money-line. In baseball the pitcher is handicapped accordingly and the odds are set. In hockey the teams are handicapped and the lines are set. In hockey it is common to see a $.20 line and in baseball a $.10 line. (Also see FAQ).

TOTALS: A total wager is a wager on the total points in basketball & football, the total runs in baseball, and the total goals in hockey, scored in the game by both teams. In this type of wager you would either bet "over" or "under" the posted total. If the total equals the posted total the bet is a "push" (FAQ) and the wager is refunded.

Example: San Antonio vs. LA Lakers (total 192.5)
The odds makers are saying the total points scored between these 2 teams will be 192.5. Obviously the game can't end with a 1/2 point so a wager of "under" would mean that the bettor is predicting the total points scored to be under 192.5. The over-under total in basketball & football is usually also -110.

MONEY LINES: A money line wager is where a bettor can take either the favorite or the underdog at adjusted prices.

Example: San Antonio -4 vs. LA Lakers
(-200) (+160)
What this means is that if you like San Antonio but don't want to lay the 4 points you lay $2.00 to win $1.00. Conversely, if you like the Lakers to win outright w/out the 4 points you are getting $1.60 for every $1.00 you wager.

There are other types of wagers that are explained in FAQ.

IMPORTANT FACTS: You will see sports handicappers claim they are hitting 80-90%+ of their picks. This is nonsense. We look to hit upwards of 74% of our plays and we are right there. Unlike some sports services that give out a side on every game on the board we don't. On a typical college football Saturday we will have 4-6 plays and 1 or 2 STRONG plays. We will also have a few totals. On a typical NFL Sunday we will have 3-6 plays and 1 or 2 STRONG plays. The reason we don't have an "opinion" on every game is that there are just too many games to handicap accurately. We look at the card as soon as the numbers are out and handicap our games accordingly. In betting sports it is not QUANTITY, rather QUALITY. Remember that.
